Slow Forage Feeder

Our Slow Forage Feeder is designed to encourage slower, more natural feeding while allowing your horse to forage from the ground, just as horses naturally would.

Instead of consuming a large amount of roughage in one place, your horse has to work for each mouthful. This encourages natural foraging behavior, extends feeding time and turns feeding into a more active and engaging part of the day.

Designed for Natural Ground Feeding:

Unlike traditional hay nets that are often hung at a fixed height, our Slow Forage Feeders are designed to be used directly on the ground.

Allowing your horse to eat with their head lowered supports a more natural feeding posture. As your horse moves around the feeder while foraging, they can change position and direction rather than remaining stationary in one spot.

This encourages gentle movement through the neck, shoulders and back while feeding and creates a more natural feeding experience.

Even Better With Multiple Feeders

For horses with larger roughage requirements, using more than one feeder can make feeding time even more active and interesting.

Place the feeders around the paddock or feeding area, rather than next to each other. Your horse can then move from bag to bag as they forage, encouraging more natural movement throughout the day.

Instead of standing in one place and eating from a large pile of roughage, your horse has multiple forage points to explore.

Choose Your Hole Size:

Our Slow Forage Feeders are available with two opening sizes:

4 × 4 cm – Slower Feeding
The smaller openings provide a slower rate of roughage intake and are ideal for horses that tend to eat quickly or need to spend longer periods foraging.

5 × 5 cm – Moderate Feeding
The larger openings allow roughage to be accessed more easily while still slowing your horse down compared to feeding loose roughage.

How do I choose?

If your horse tends to finish their roughage very quickly, the 4 × 4 cm option is the better place to start.

If your horse is already a slower eater, struggles to pull roughage through smaller openings, or you want a less restrictive option, choose 5 × 5 cm.

Feeding rate will vary depending on your horse, the type of roughage and how tightly the feeder is packed.

Choose Your Feeder Size

Small – 60 × 45 cm
Holds approximately **4–6 kg of roughage. Ideal for smaller portions or individual meals.

Medium – 80 × 65 cm
Holds approximately **7–10 kg of roughage. A versatile everyday size for most horses.

Large – 105 × 85 cm
Holds approximately 12–15 kg of roughage. Ideal for larger horses, longer feeding periods or overnight use.

Roughage capacity is approximate and will vary depending on the type, moisture content and density of the roughage, as well as how tightly the feeder is packed.
